NOW – Monday May 21st: Hey Lake of Bays! Irwin Memorial Public School wants your scrap metal. Until May 21st you can drop off your scrap metal items in the bin in the school parking lot (1011 Dwight Beach Road). Proceeds from fundraising go toward supporting Irwin students with learning and physical activity. They can accept: appliances (except microwaves), lawn mowers, steel railings, metal lawn furniture, pots & pans, cutlery, empty cans, copper pipe, wire, rims, bed springs, bicycles, metal office equipment, barbeques, car parts, all other metal materials except (wood stoves, computers, microwaves, propane tanks, water filters, carpentry levels). Please no plastics, wood or garbage.

Tuesday April 17th – Sunday July 15th: An exhibition of recent work by the members of the Muskoka Autumn Studio Tour will be on display at the Canada Summit Centre from April 17 to July 15. The Muskoka Autumn Studio Tour is a group of professional artists and craftspeople from across the District of Muskoka who open their studios to the public each autumn. The public is cordially invited to attend a reception and meet the artists on Friday April 27th from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at the Canada Summit Centre. Saturday May 12th – Saturday June 9th: Muskoka Arts & Crafts Chapel Gallery presents Reflections of Nature. This solo exhibition by Janine Marson opens with an artist’s reception on Saturday, May 12 between 1pm and 4pm. Reflections of Nature will be on display at Muskoka Arts & Crafts Chapel Gallery from May 12 until June 9. The Chapel Gallery is located at 15 King Street in Bracebridge. Tuesday May 15th, Thursday May 17th: Huntsville Public School presents: Annie Jr. at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the Huntsville Public School office. All proceeds will be going toward Free the Children adopt a village in Sierra Leon and future musical projects.

Saturday May 19th: Tawingo College Spring Garage Sale from 8am – 3pm at Camp Tawingo - 1844 Ravenscliffe Rd. This event is in support of Free the Children and the Grade 7/8 class trip. The items are donated by many families from the school and there is lots of great stuff!

Saturday May 19th: Washago Community Centre annual garage sale on May 19 from 8 to 1pm. There are 15 vendors outside and another 15 vendors inside the building. The inside vendors are doing a Mom/Mom sale with gently used children's clothing, furniture and toys. Lunch will be served - sausage on bun, hot dogs, pop and coffee.

Saturday May 19th: The Sprucedale and District Horticultural Society will be holding their annual fundraiser Plant Sale From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Novar Foodland Parking Lot. There will be many hardy perennials from local area gardens, as well as annuals, houseplants, herbs etc. at very reasonable prices. Find valuable gardening advice from experienced local gardeners.

Saturday May 19th: Annual Bent River Historical Hall (Old Schoolhouse) Plant Sale from 10am til Noon. The Old School House is located at 1120 Rosseau Lake Rd 1, off Hwy 141 in Bent River.

Saturday May 19th: Hospice Muskoka Rocks: a night of amazing local talent! Performers include: Drew Taylor, Rob & Joe, Kassandra Cutting, Pressure Point, M.T. & The Toasters, Crimes in Paris, Papas Delicate Condition PDC, and Led Zeppelin Explosion. It is at the Rotary Centre for Youth in Bracebridge, doors open at 6:30pm and tickets are $15 per person.

Saturday May 19th: Pioneer Plant Sale at the Muskoka Lakes Museum in Port Carling, from 9 am until 2 pm. Choose from a selection of plants from their museum gardens, stock on locally grown perennials and veggies from the museums volunteer gardeners and local nurseries, and enjoy delicious complimentary refreshments! Plants are $1, $2, or $5 per pot! There will be a free carry out service. All proceeds from this sale support this seasons programming. Saturday May 19th: 844 Norseman Air Cadets will be holding a YARD SALE Saturday May 19 8am - 1 pm in the parking lot of Branch 232 Huntsville Royal Canadian Legion. Anyone wishing to rent a table for $15, please leave a message at (705) 789-7858. Spaces are limited. Anyone wishing to donate items can drop them off at the Cadet Office (at the back of the Legion) May 17/18.

Sunday May 20th: The Bay Lake Property Owners Association is hosting their annual pancake breakfast and silent auction from 9:00 a.m. until noon. It is at the Clear Lake/Bay Lake Hall and is $6.00 for Adults, $4.00 for kids 5 – 12 years old, and free for kids 4 and under. There will be lots of pancakes, sausages and great silent auction items donated by many of the business in the surrounding area. Everyone is welcome!

Sunday May 20th: South River/Sundridge Flying Club presents a Pancake Breakfast! It is at the South River/Sundridge Airport, 9am till noon is a pancake/sausage breakfast for $6, noon till 3pm you can get a sausage (smokies) on a bun for $6! There will be live music by Paul Whitfield and Friends, bring the kids to see the planes! Everyone is welcome!

Sunday May 20th: Knox Presbyterian Church is hosting a community Victoria Weekend BBQ Luncheon from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the church, 45 McMurray St. across from the old high school building. Fresh BBQ'd hamburger or sausage on a bun with your choice of drink and dessert for $6, and for the kids, a hotdog with their choice of drink and dessert for $5. This is a congregational fundraiser for our future new church home. Bring the family. Monday May 21st: The Sprucedale and District Horticultural Society will hold their third meeting of the 2012 season on Monday May 21 at the Sprucedale Community Centre. The Guest speaker will be Lynda Cippola speaking on flower design. The doors will open at 7:00 PM. Everyone is welcome. Bring your coffee mug, enjoy the refreshments and exchange plant materials from the free green table.

Monday May 21st: 1st Annual Kris Clement Memorial Golf Tournament at Muskoka Highlands. It is $150 per player which includes cart, 18 holes, lunch, and lots of great prizes! It is an 8 am shotgun start, scramble, and $5,000 for a hole in one! All proceeds go towards Kris’ GHS bursary fund. Tuesday May 22nd: The Bracebridge Horticultural Society is celebrating their 80th Anniversary at their general meeting on Tuesday May 22nd at 7:30pm, at the Seniors Centre on Dominion St. The speaker will be Gary Carlson from Orillia talking on Daylilies. Tuesday May 22nd: CNIB Low Vision Clinic in Huntsville! Wanting information on vision health or interested in learning about CNIB services or supports? CNIB staff are available to answer questions and demonstrate specialized products. They are located at the Muskoka Traditions Retirement Home 16 Legacy Lane Huntsville from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Wednesday May 23rd: The South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is excited to announce its upcoming Spring Fashion Show which will be held on Wednesday May 23rd at 7pm at Muskoka Highlands Golf Club. Tickets are $20 and are available at the retailers whose fashions and accessories will be on show that evening: Mia, Little Black Bow, Pelican Bay, Muskoka Highlands Pro Shop and the SMMH Gift Shop. Enjoy a wonderful evening of fashion and fun in support of our community hospital.

Thursday May 24th: The Bracebridge Public Library Facility Working Group would like to invite senior members in the community to join them on Thursday, May 24 at 2pm in the library. This is your opportunity to let them know how you think an expanded library can benefit the community. RSVP preferred. Please call 705-645-4171.

Saturday May 26th: Friends for Life Walk-A-Thon in support of the OSPCA Muskoka Animal Centre. The walk starts at 9am from Annie Williams Memorial Park in Bracebridge. Register online at www.ospcawalk.ca to start fundraising today!

Saturday May 26th: Pete’s Pilgrimage for the “B” Student. Chief Custodian at St. Dom’s, Peter Cassidy, will be retiring at Christmas and has created a bursary for the “B” Student, as a way to say thanks for his years at the school. The Pilgrimage (walk) takes place at 9 am, rain or shine, starting from St. Dom’s, 955 Cedar Lane, Bracebridge. Entry fee is $20 with 100% of proceeds going toward the bursary. Saturday May 26th: Gravenhurst Swap & Play Event from 8:30am-11:30am at Gull Lake Park in Gravenhurst (raindate the following day, same time & place). A community event where local parents and businesses can swap and sell maternity and children's goods while the kids play at the park! Free admission, proceeds from table booking fees will be divided evenly between the Gravenhurst La Leche League and the Kendall Pearson Fund. Saturday May 26th: Join the Baysville Friends of the Library for a Cruise Theme Dinner and Silent Auction. Fully catered event by “My Chef in Muskoka”. Tickets are $50 each and are available at the Baysville Library or by calling 767-2361.

Saturday May 26th: The Trout Creek Lions Club is holding its largest one day fundraising event on Saturday May 26th. The HUGE QUILT AUCTION, with over 50 quilts available both live and silent auctions, penny sale and Spaghetti supper . Viewing of quilts starts at 11 am and the auction begins at 1 pm- Penny sale from 11am to 6pm. They accept Visa, Mastercard and Debit, check out the website www.tclionsclub.com.

Saturday May 26th: Muskoka Trails Council is hosting a High-Tec Hike from 11 am to 2 pm at Avery Park in Huntsville, parents and their young children will participate in a hike, a full lunch, stories and – for the first year – geocaching. Geocaching, a high-tech scavenger hunt, is an activity enjoyed all over the world with a sizeable following in Muskoka. Using handheld GPS units or smartphone apps, geocachers hunt down small bundles hidden anywhere and everywhere. Contact Muskoka Family Focus for more information. Saturday May 26th: Bracebridge Horticultural Society's Annual Plant and Bake Sale at their Millennium Garden on Ecclestone Drive. Members plant divisions and some of the best baking in town. The sale starts at 8:30am.

Saturday May 26th: May is Community Living Month! Go to Morrison’s Meadows for a Free Pancake Breakfast at their Farm from 8 to 11am. Drop in and learn more about the Farm and Community Living South Muskoka. Buy lunch or bring a picnic, take a hayride for a toonie and tour the property. Hayrides run until 2pm. Their annual walk-a-thon will also be taking place that day, from 9 to 10:30am. Morrison’s Meadows Farm is at 1177 Fraserburg Rd., Bracebridge. There is lots of free parking!

Sunday May 27th: The 3rd Annual Muskoka Gumball Rally. Departures from the Huntsville Canadian Tire between 10am and 11am, and is $5 per vehicle registration. Everyone is welcome! Proceeds will be donated to Hospice Huntsville and The Huntsville Hospital Dialysis Unit. Contact Randy at 787-0050 for more information.

Sunday May 27th: A fundraiser for the Ravenscliffe Hall will be held on Sunday, May 27th from 2 - 4 pm at St. John's Anglican Church, 1532 Ravenscliffe Rd. in Huntsville. The concert features Bevan Wilson; The Huntsville Youth Choir under the direction of Ruth Cassie and Northern Comfort. Admission is by donation.

Sunday May 27th: Muskoka-Parry Sound Community Mental Health Service is hosting Defeat Depression, raising awareness and defeating stigma towards Depression and Mental Illness. Participate in this 2 or 5 K walk, run, pole or roll on May 27th. Location is the Bracebridge Resource Management Centre. Registration opens at 9 a.m., event starts at 10 a.m. Graeme Murray of Team Canada's Olympic Sledge Hockey Team will be in attendance to show his support to this cause. Saturday June 2nd: Penny Sale and Silent Auction at Utterson Hall from 8am to 3pm. Ticket drawing start at 3pm and refreshments will be available! Penny sale tickets 25 for $1, draw tickets 3 for $1! Proceeds will go to the Utterson Live Wires (Seniors Club), charitable organizations, and community projects. There will be over 200 items to choose from!

Sunday June 3rd: The Huntsville Fire Department Association’s annual Pike Challenge is at the Huntsville Town Docks! Funds raised in the tournament are used for fire safety or public education materials, specialized equipment or donating to worthwhile causes within the community. All are welcome to register and compete for prizes and bragging rights! It is $180 team entry, with over 70% cash payback to top 5 teams, and big fish merchandise prizes. Wednesday June 6th - Thursday June 7th: The 2012 Muskoka Summit on the Environment on Biodiversity Loss will take place at the Rene Caisse Theatre in Bracebridge. Structured to accommodate all levels of knowledge, the Summit will feature eight speakers who will highlight issues and trends and examine policy options for future action. Registration includes lunch, dinner and snacks with a special rate for students and the general public. To register, visit muskokasummit.org.

Thursday June 7th: Huntsville Public School is having 125th Anniversary BBQ from 5 to 7 pm. There will be Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Cake Cutting, Dunk Tank and Games, and Music by FM 105.5, and Mel Candelaria from the FM105.5 Big Breakfast Morning Show will be taking a seat in the Dunk Tank!

Saturday June 9th: The Gravenhurst Lions Club is holding a yard sale at the Muskoka Wharf. The sale is Saturday June 9th, from 6:30 am to 12:30 pm, in the Lions Pavilion. There are lots of treasures to be found!

Thursday June 14th: Join in Glen Orchard Public School's Fun Night . Their School Council is presenting a Fun Night on Thursday June 14th from 5:30pm to 8pm. Friday June 15th – Sunday June 17th: Ashley’s Angels at Muskoka Madtrax and Hobbies in Huntsville, an RC Pro Canadian Series charity event. Ashley's Angels is a fundraising initiative that funds liver transplant research at Toronto's 'SickKids' hospital. Ashley is a lively 5 year old girl, who underwent a transplant a few years ago. There will be upwards of 200 people attending the event. They will have children's activities, food and many other exciting events taking place throughout the duration of the weekend as well as the actual RC race. Go check it out!

Thursday June 21st: “Her Wake” comes to Baysville! This play is based on an Irish Wake and takes place at the Baysville Seniors Centre at 7pm. Tickets are $15 each and available at the Library or by calling 767-2361. Coffee, tea, and desserts will be served. Seats are limited.

Saturday June 23rd: “Paige’s Hit the Links Fore Locks” 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at Windemere Golf and Country Club. Join them for a great day of golf at a fantastic course and help raise much needed money for local children. A Childs Voice Foundation is there to help these kids who are sick or disabled to get the day to day necessities that they need. To learn more about the Foundation, please visit www.acvf.ca. Meet Paige at the Golf Tournament, tons of prizes, and hole in one contest. It is $150 per person or $100 per person with pledges of $500.00 each which includes 18 great holes of golf with a cart, steak dinner, and prizes. Saturday June 23rd – Sunday July 15th: In celebration of Multiculturalism Day in Canada (June 27th), the Muskoka Multicultural Association will be hosting their annual Muskoka Multicultural Art Festival (MMAF) from June 23 rd until July 15 th. This event will be held at Zensations Emporium Art/Gift Gallery in Gravenhurst, and will showcase pieces of work from local artists and students.

Saturday June 30th: 100th Anniversary Celebration of Bent River School. The event is from 10am to 4pm at 1120 Rosseau Lake Rd 1, off Hwy 141 in Bent River. Bring any copies of family or school photos that you may have to share. Let anyone you know who attended or taught at the school of the festivities. For more information contact June at 769-3515.

Saturday July 7th: YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka host an Adult and Youth Team Golf Tournament. It takes place at Deerhurst Resort Lakeside Gold Course in Huntsville. The event will consist of a team of two people, one adult and one youth between the ages of 7 and 13. Their goal is to have 36 teams in total, which will make this a fun and memorable event for everyone involved. They are kindly asking participants to help them help local families by participating in this event. Ongoing Events in the Community

The Kearney Legion Branch 276 will be having a wing night, every Friday night from 6pm to 10pm! Everyone is welcome!

Saint Mary's School in Huntsville is asking for your help. The play and baseball fencing area needs to be desperately repaired, and the school is hoping you will donate some items to get it fixed and make it safer for the kids. There's a bin at the front of the school and items they're looking for include steel, aluminum or copper products, bike frames, barbecue lids, car batteries, fridges and even pop cans. The school is accepting donations from now until after the May long weekend. Saint Mary's is located on Silverwood Drive and can be seen from Highway 11.

V.K. Greer School Council is running a Scrap Metal & E-Waste Drive at All Ontario Recycling. Turn your TRASH into CASH for V.K. Greer. Proceeds will go toward Wish List items which include: Field Trips, Graduation and Technology for Classrooms. They will be collecting until Saturday June 2nd.

Muskoka Tourism Marketing Agency (MTMA) has launched an exciting new promotion: What’s Your Muskoka? Video Contest. Enter a video on Facebook about what Muskoka means to you for a chance to win some wonderful prize packages. The contest will run until Nov. 26th, 2012, Simply create a video (two minutes or less) – that fits into one of the four categories: PEOPLE, ARTS, ENVIRONMENT, EXPERIENCE and then visit Muskoka Tourism’s Facebook contest page, to upload your video. If you have a child entering Kindergarten for the first time this fall, plan to attend a Ready for Kindergarten event: April 17 at Huntsville Public School, May 2 at Gravenhurst Public School, May 17 at Monsignor Michael O’Leary Catholic School in Bracebridge. The events run from 4 pm until 7 pm. Ready for Kindergarten will help ensure your child is ready to learn on their first day of school. Your child will have the opportunity to have their hearing and vision tested, as well as undergo screening for developmental milestones such as speech and language. There will also be plenty of opportunity to play, and try new activities. You are welcome to attend any of the three FREE open houses, regardless of where you live and which school you have registered at for the fall. Muskoka Parry Sound Independent Animal Rescue is in need of temporary foster homes for animals awaiting adoption. Muskoka Parry Sound Independent Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit, volunteer based group that works with local municipalities and organizations to find new homes for animals that have been abandoned or surrendered. Gravenhurst Public School Grade 7-8 students travelling to Quebec are holding a Metal/Copper Collection Fundraiser to assist with the cost of their trip. Please bring all of your unwanted metal and copper, including old BBQ’s, washers, dryers, pots. Bring item to the marked bin behind Gravenhurst Public School – enter rear driveway off of James Street. The Barrie Simcoe Muskoka Branch of St. John Ambulance is seeking individuals to serve on its Board of Directors. Applicants must have an understanding of, and an interest in voluntary community service, good interpersonal and communications skills, and should have demonstrated service and leadership in their place of employment, and/or through community involvement. Strengthening Families is a unique family change program designed to reduce factors that put families at risk and enhance factors that help them function well. The program runs on Thursday evenings from March 1 to June 7, 2012 at Community Living South Muskoka in Bracebridge. Your family must meet certain criteria. Families will benefit from this program through an increase in parenting skills, an increase in children’s life skills and an improvement in family relations. Program highlights include: no cost to participants, free supper before each program, childcare and transportation provided, fun & stimulating program, separate sessions for parents and children, followed by a family group session. Lions BINGO is back!!! Bracebridge Lions are pleased to announce that we are bringing BINGO back to Bracebridge. Their first BINGO will be held Tuesday February 7th at the Rotary Youth Centre on Wellington St. and will continue to be held on the first Tuesday of the month; March 6th, April 3rd and May 1st. Jackpot will be $1,000 in addition to 12 regular games and a share-the-wealth game for a total prize board of $2,500. Everyone over 18 is welcome to attend. The doors open at 5:00, ticket sales start at 5:30 and refreshments and snacks will be served. The first game will start at 7:00 sharp. All proceeds go back to help the community.

Become a ‘Friend’ of the Huntsville Animal Shelter. The Animal Shelter for Huntsville is a non-profit shelter facility that cares for abandoned cats & dogs as well as other animals in distress. Car Seat Clinics are offered monthly in Huntsville and Gravenhurst, and are run by trained car seat technicians with the OPP, Huntsville Community Policing, local Fire Departments and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Huntsville clinics are held the first Thursday of every month at the Huntsville Fire Department, 1 Payne Drive, from 12pm-2pm. Volunteers are needed for the VON (Victorian Order of Nurses) Simcoe County/Muskoka SMART Program (Senior's Maintaining Active Roles Together). The SMART Program is a gentle yet effective exercise program for seniors who may be frail, isolated or at risk of falls. They offer in home and small group classes, lead by trained volunteers. Volunteers are needed for Huntsville, Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, and surrounding areas.  Free training is provided, no experience necessary, must be 18 years and older.  CPR and First Aid training at no cost.  Volunteers are scheduled for a minimum of 1 hour per week, with the option to do more. Bingo! The Armour, Ryerson & Burk's Falls Agricultural Society hosts monthly bingo upstairs in the Karl Crozier Hall at the Burk's Falls Arena on the first Saturday of each month. An elevator is available, doors open at 5pm with mini games starting at 6pm.  Regular games start at 7pm. 2 card strip minimum to play.  The maximum jackpot is $500. All proceeds go to junior entertainment and prizes for their annual Fall Fair.

The Emsdale Men’s Cancer Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 7pm to 8pm at Perry Township Public Library, at 25 Joseph Street, behind the Community Centre in Emsdale. The group is open to males who have experienced any type of cancer and who are willing to share individual experiences. The Muskoka Photography Club meets every third Wednesday of the month. Meetings are downstairs at the Raymond Community Centre between 7:00 – 9:00pm.  "Getting Ready for Baby" prenatal classes: Many parents-to-be have a lot of questions about what life will be like with their new baby. Join other parents-to-be and a public health nurse for free classes to get some answers. Getting Ready for Baby classes run weekday evenings or Saturdays.
