Friday June 21st: 2013 marks the 75th Anniversary of the Canadian Cancer Society and 10th anniversary of the Relay for Life in Muskoka. Join them at this year’s Relay For Life on Friday, June 21st at the Bracebridge Fairgrounds, from 7:00pm to 7:00am. Saturday June 22nd: Knox Presbyterian Church’s big move is coming up. They’ll be getting ready for it by planning an Auction and Yard Sale on Saturday, June 22nd. They are going to be auctioning their pews, tables, chairs and more. The Yard Sale and viewing for the Auction Sale will start at 9:00am, the Auction will start at 10:00am at 45 McMurray Street. Money raised goes toward their moving costs and the work of the church throughout the community. The move is July 2nd.

Monday June 24th: The 2013 Muskoka Lakes Mayor’s Golf Classic will be held on Monday, June 24th, again at The Rock. Proceeds from the event will go to bringing primary health care to the Township through a Nursing Station. This type of facility has been highly successful in other jurisdictions, helping to divert non-emergency demands from our local hospital while providing more immediate and accessible health care solutions to our permanent and seasonal residents. Friday June 28th and Sunday July 7th: The 2nd annual Swim for Hospice is taking place Sunday, July 7th. Local long distance swimmer Joy will braving the waters of the Muskoka River early on Sunday July 7th, leaving from the Town Docks in Huntsville, swimming out and around Centreview Island on Lake Vernon, and back. Swim challengers will enter the water and help her finish the swim and collect pledges. The goal is $25,000. Register by June 28th by phone or email. These are High School students, who will be participating in an ESL school program, and wish to experience life in Muskoka. Saturday July 6th: Joe's Team triathlon/duathlon will be taking place at the CNIB Centre at Lake Joseph in Muskoka on July 6. All proceeds from this event go to support construction of the Joe Finley Head and Neck Translational Research Centre, and since 2006 has raised $6.3 million making it the most successful grassroots fundraising initiative in the history of the hospital. Collectively, Joe's Team has raised $8.3 million of its $10 million goal. Participants are able to compete as an individual, or join a relay team in an extraordinary day where they can swm, bike, and run.

Sunday July 7th: Hospice Muskoka`s Butterfly Release Day is Sunday, July 7th from 12:30 to 2:30 at Memorial Park in Bracebridge. Celebrate the life of a loved one by releasing your own live Monarch butterfly! Donate $30 for one butterfly, or $100 for four butterflies. You will receive a charitable tax receipt for your donation. Proceeds of the event will be used for the Hospice Muskoka Bereavement Support Programs in South Muskoka. Thursday July 20th: Combining Seniors’ month with fundraising, the Muskoka Lakes library is excited to invite area seniors to an appreciation high tea afternoon on Thursday, June 20th from 1:00 to 3:00pm. Admission will be by donation with proceeds of the day going to the new Brock and Willa Wellness Centre. Ask staff member, Cathy Duck, for the latest news and updates about the centre as she is highly involved in the project.

Friday August 16th to Sunday August 18th: The 22nd Annual Dockside Festival of the Arts is happening at the Special Events Field at the Muskoka Wharf. Dates and times include: Friday August 16th from 10:00am-6:00pm, Saturday August 17th from 10:00am-6:00pm and Sunday August 18th from 10:00am-4:00pm There will be over 90 juried artisans and crasftpeople form Muskoka and across the country, live entertainment, splash pad music and prizes and ‘Shop Till You Drop’ for three days .
Saturday August 17th: The Port Carling Fire Department’s Annual Corn Roast and Dance will be held Saturday August 17th. The Corn Roast is from 11:00-3:00pm at the Port Carling Fire Department at 1 Lee Valley Drive in Port Carling – admission by donation. There will be kids’ activities, fire prevention materials and an auto extrication demonstration. Then the dance kicks off at 8:00pm at the Port Carling Community Centre at 3 Bailey Street in Port Carling – Admission is $10 – tickets will be available ahead of the event as well as at the door. Ongoing Events in the Community
Thursday May 30th to Wednesday July 3rd: The annual Home Depot Canada Foundation's "Buy a Hammer, Build Our Community" campaign will be taking place May 30th-July 3rd, and the Muskoka Women's Advocacy Group (MWAG) is pleased to have been selected as the recipient of funds raised by the Bracebridge store. The local campaign will be officially kicked off at noon May 30th at the Bracebridge Home Depot. The $2 paper hammers will be on sale until July 3. Money raised by the Bracebridge Home Depot will benefit abused women and children throughout Muskoka, through the support services offered at Muskoka Interval House and Chrysalis, MWAG's two crisis shelters.
Until Monday July 8th: The 3rd Annual Front Garden Contest for Bracebridge residents is underway. Prizes of $150, $100, $50 will be given away plus Honorable Mentions. Car Seat Clinics are offered monthly in Huntsville and Gravenhurst, and are run by trained car seat technicians with the OPP, Huntsville Community Policing, local Fire Departments and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Huntsville clinics are held the first Thursday of every month at the Huntsville Fire Department, 1 Payne Drive, from 12pm-2pm. Gravenhurst area clinics are held at the Gravenhurst Fire Hall, 190 Harvie Street, from 12pm-2pm. Appointments are not required.

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka Employment Service - Huntsville offers employment services in Lake of Bays. Self-help job search resources are available during all Dorset Community Centre, Dwight Public Library, and Baysville Public Library hours. These include access to a computer with word processing and internet, resume templates, job search information, and access to the Huntsville Employment Service staff during office hours via web cam. An Employment Specialist is on site twice a month to offer employment assistance in person. Bingo! The Armour, Ryerson & Burk's Falls Agricultural Society hosts monthly bingo upstairs in the Karl Crozier Hall at the Burk's Falls Arena on the first Saturday of each month. An elevator is available, doors open at 5pm with mini games starting at 6pm. Regular games start at 7pm. 2 card strip minimum to play. The maximum jackpot is $500. All proceeds go to junior entertainment and prizes for their annual Fall Fair.
The Emsdale Men's Cancer Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 7pm to 8pm at Perry Township Public Library, at 25 Joseph Street, behind the Community Centre in Emsdale. "Getting Ready for Baby" prenatal classes: Many parents-to-be have a lot of questions about what life will be like with their new baby. Join other parents-to-be and a public health nurse for free classes to get some answers. Getting Ready for Baby classes run weekday evenings or Saturdays.
