On Wednesday, Fenbrook Institution in Gravenhurst was placed under lockdown to investigate health and safety concerns raised by staff members. Consequently, a number of hobby craft items were confiscated from inmates. The safety and security of institutions is the primary consideration of the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC. Fenbrook officials say they'll re-open as soon as it's determined safe to do so. Regularly scheduled visits may be affected. Those who have previously scheduled visits are asked to contact the institution directly. In order to improve its practices to prevent and reduce future safety concerns, CSC will continue to work in an effort to review the circumstances and take action where necessary.
