OPP Assisting Huntsville High School in Email Investigation

Hits

Just before 8:30am today, Huntsville High School asked Huntsville OPP for assistance regarding information they had, possibly concerning some of their students. Police were asked to help locate students that may have written an email which could have been taken in different contexts. With the world of social media, including Facebook, police say that thoughts are often written, but the meaning of the thoughts are often hard to clarify unless the writer is available to speak to it face to face. Huntsville OPP assisted the high school in locating the students and the investigation is continuing. The Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) says the high school was not in a lockdown, but in something called a "Hold and Secure" which is when the doors to the school are locked and school proceeds as usual. In this case, the front door remained unlocked, but supervised, so adult volunteers and staff could enter the building. The Hold and Secure was lifted at lunchtime. During this incident, the safety of staff and students was the primary focus. Both the High School administration and the OPP worked closely to ensure that school safety was not compromised.
